The unlikely expat blogger behind Mild River Paper

Hi there, I'm James
I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in New York, United States.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to United States wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate moves, it began as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the job. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Mild River Paper
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in United States.
What This Site Covers (And What It Doesn’t)
This site IS:
- Practical knowledge gained from living in United States
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something meaningful changes
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in United States continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in New York or anywhere in United States, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
James
